This article is all about my experience of getting help from mentors during my 2-year job as a Graduate Product Specialist at Immediation Platform Private Limited. I think that having and keeping good mentors is really important for anyone trying to make it in any field. They can really jump start your career. Here's how they can help you out.

Right mentors know how to use an umbrella

Mentors teach us how to use skills effectively

Right mentor will save you in the tough times by providing insights from their experiences. They can also help you learn how to use an umbrella in different ways: as a tool for protection as well as a weapon. Here the umbrella means the skills and the collection of experiences. The more the skills and the bigger the collection of experiences, the bigger the umbrella is.

Right mentors are like Air Traffic Controller (ATC)

Mentors correct our course

Mentors will help you in correcting your course. They’ll ensure that your take-off and landing are smooth, and that you land at the right airport. When you become strong enough to operate autonomously, they will give you latitude to operate autonomously, also providing guidance at crucial moments.

Right mentors are like thruster rockets

Mentors boost our strength by putting it to right use

Right mentors will boost your upward trajectory by providing and securing opportunities for you. They will select a series of projects that are right for your skillset and mindset. These projects will challenge you and help you grow. These projects will gradually take you out of your comfort zone.

Right mentor will prepare you for the life, not just for the job

Helps us learn transferable skills

Right mentor will help you develop soft skills that are also useful outside the work. Planning and organisation, communication skills, problem-solving are the examples of skills that can be applied to anywhere in life.

To summarize

In this article, I have explained 4 ways through which mentorship was helpful to me. There could be many more ways, but ultimately it is all about the mentor and mentee bond.

Please feel free to leave your thoughts and experiences
